Several perpetrators of the JSE bombing have stood trial. But the mastermind and motive remain obscured.

BY late afternoon, September 13, 2000, the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSE) was still busy, with brokers engrossed in stock transactions. All at once, without any alarm and warning, a big explosion rumbled, rocking the 31-floor building. A bomb had been detonated on the P2 parking level, killing at least 15 people and injuring 34 others. Jakarta was thrown into panic.
