Time Bomb?

Assurances have been made that Lippo Bank's CAR is definitely above 20 percent. Can one therefore consider the troubles that have plagued Bank Lippo are now over?

AT the very peak of the Lippo Bank crisis, Syafruddin Temenggung, Chairman of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA), had some good news to impart. Apparently, at the end of December last year, the capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of the bank that was founded by the Riady family was in fact above 20 percent. According to Syafruddin, this CAR calculation was based on the results of a revaluation carried out on the bank's taken-over assets
