The expected refugee influx into Ruweished has not taken place. The more than 30,000 large tents remain empty.

ON the edge of the desert in Jordan, Ruweished has become a transit camp for victims of war. Located some 50 kilometers from the Iraq-Jordan border, the small town was "chosen" as a place for refugees who try to seek safety from US bomb attacks. The road from the border to Baghdad, around 300 kilometers, is mostly stony desert instead of a fairly smooth asphalted highway.
