Troubled Indonesian Airlines, plying the Jakarta-Surabaya route, managed to operate smoothly for only a few months. Can it attract new investors?

The airline business everywhere is a venture that demands excellence. "Few people can do it. That's why I'm in it," said Rudy Setyopurnomo, President Director of PT Indonesian Airlines Avipatria, recounting the way this business first drew him in.

Rudy's interest, however, did not extend to a total commitment. The Indonesian Airlines fleet, for instance, only comprises two Boeing 737-300s hired from Lufthansa, not enough to sustain the business
