HE originates from Lebanon. During the 15 years of civil war, Hassan lived in West Beirut. Beirut is divided into two areas: the Muslim area in the western part, and the Christian area in the east. He observed this once-cosmopolitan city—a jewel in the midst of conservative Middle East—break apart.
