BI's surplus has dropped dramatically, operational costs have risen, and inflation remains high.

Whereas previously Bank Indonesia recorded a profit of Rp1.05 trillion, in 2004 it only reached Rp675 billion—a decrease of 36 percent. The main cause of this was the decrease in revenue from assistance loans and expenses. Previously, this section contributed Rp7 trillion per year, but in 2004 it only contributed Rp4 trillion.
