Fuel Prices to Rise this Year

THE rise in the oil price on the world market, which pushed past US$65 per barrel last week, has left the government with few choices. I cannot put it off any later than January (2006), Vice President Jusuf Kalla said last week in reference to the domestic increase in the fuel price.

Without such policy, he explained, the national budget will suffer because the government will have to bear the fuel subsidy which is con
