Unsolved problems between the state money printers and currency paper suppliers will make the Rp1,000 and Rp5,000 banknotes scarce. Are Peruri and Bank Indonesia vying for business?

This certainly is not a trivial matter. More than 400 million Rp1,000-denomination banknotes have to be discarded. The same end awaits the Rp5,000 banknote, which, following printing, cannot be circulated. Even now, the Indonesian Money Printing Company (Perum Peruri) has been unable to replace the two denominations, which have been in circulation for almost 10 years.
