The government advanced the appointment of the new director-general of tax to stave off a political confrontation with parliament.

SHORTLY after a farewell party held in honor of his predecessor Mochamad Tjiptardjo, new Tax Director-General Fuad Rahmany called a meeting of senior officials of the directorate general at his office on Monday last week, the first since he was sworn-in only four days before. Rahmany was head of the Capital Market Supervisory Board before he was appointed to his new office.
