The government threatens to ban BlackBerry in Indonesia unless its Canadian producer, Research in Motion, blocks access to pornographic websites.

THE controversy began two weeks ago when Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring threatened to ban BlackBerry in Indonesia unless its Canadian producer, Research in Motion (RIM), blocks access to pornographic websites. Sembiring gave RIM until January 21 to do so. “Anyone breaking the rules will be subject to sanctions,” he told reporters in Jakarta.

The move added to the long list of controversial policies issued by Sembiri
