Sibling Rivalry

Pertamina and the Gas Company are fighting over territory in the gas business. Gas station construction and the open access policy are primary battlegrounds.

In March, 35 businessmen from the Indonesian Association of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Companies (APCNGI) sent a strongly-worded letter to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry. They asked for the allocation of special gas for transportation whose upstream price had reached US$4.72 per million British thermal units (mmbtu). "It might as well have been written in our blood," said Danny Praditya, then chair of the association.
