A Failing Grade for Flight Regulators

The one-hour meeting was raucous. Held at the Transportation Ministry in Central Jakarta two weeks ago, Minister Ignasius Jonan had invited senior officials who were allegedly responsible for AirAsia plane QZ8501, that crashed in Karimata Strait, which allegedly flew without the proper permit.

Present were Angkasa Pura I CEO Tommy Soetomo, Director of Operations Yushan Suyuti and CEO of Indonesia Flight Navigation Service Provider (Indonesian AirNav) Bambang Tjahjono. According to Transportation Ministry spokesman, Hadi M. Juraid, the meeting took place in the morning and in the afternoon. The topic of the meeting was "AirAsia's flight violation," he said.
