A Much More Interesting World

The euro, the currency of 12 European nations, could become the global currency of the future. The hope is that this means Indonesia will no longer be so dependant on the US dollar and the rupiah can become more stable.

A NEW ERA HAS begun in Europe, one that will affect the global economy. When they woke up on New Year's Day 2002, some 300 million people in 12 European countries all had a new, common currency—the euro—to look forward to. It could be that this European currency becomes strong competition to the US dollar as the currency used in international trade.
