Farmers Stifled by Regulations

Budidoyo Siswoyo, chair of the Indonesian Tobacco Community Alliance (AMTI), was reluctant to sign the minutes of meeting on a draft regulation on limiting tobacco imports. Budidoyo felt that the regulation discussed in the meeting, which took place at the trade ministry last October, was misguided. "The problem is, there's not enough local tobacco," said Budidoyo last week. "Even if it is absorbed by the market, prices won't meet farmers' expectations
