Halal Stickers, for Whom?

The requirement to affix halal (permissible by Islam) stickers to food and beverage products has come under fire. Why do halal-certified commodities remain obliged to carry such stickers?

The halal certificates issued by the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) seem unable yet to provide guarantee. As proof, the government still deems it necessary to demand food and beverage manufacturers that they attach halal stickers to product containers. And don't be mistaken: the labels are not given free as part of the state's public service. So, consumers should be prepared to buy more expensive commodities-again.
