Public transport fares will go up in some areas and stay the same in others. Some cities have received subsidies, others not. Are these spur-of_the-moment policies just to placate the public?

Minister of Finance Rizal Ramli's forecasts appear to have been close to the mark, although not entirely so. Faced with a 30 percent hike in fuel prices, protesters took to the streets in many areas. However, the public transportation strikes were kept under control and did not degenerate into mass violence. So, the threats to the lawfully established government's existence that had been feared by Rizal failed to materialize.
