Around two or three years ago, Chinese motorcycles started to make inroads into the Indonesian motorbike market. "Big noise and everybody's excited," says Gunadi Sindhuwinata, the vice president of the Indonesian Motorcycle Association (AISI).

The low prices of the Chinese bikes are, of course, the primary attraction. Their models are not, however, all that different from the other bikes on the market. "It looks great, yeah. It
