The extremely advantageous monopoly it currently enjoys will soon be a thing of the past for Pertamina. If its oil and gas monopoly is rescinded next year, the national oil company will have to be prepared to compete against other companies in the free market. This means extra funds will be needed and Pertamina is now stockpiling trillions of rupiah with which to buy existing petrol stations or build its own.
