Salvaging BII: A Long & Winding Road

The government's decision to extend BII's life must have been hard to make. It involves Bank Mandiri and there's no guarantee that the problem will be solved comprehensively.

There are many roads to Rome, and many ways to save Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII). The government has chosen one that is long and winding, although the target must have been obvious: recapitalization. By using Bank Mandiri to inject the required capital, the government doesn't need to recapitalize the bank founded by Eka Tjipta Widjaya family a second time. In other words, it falls on Bank Mandiri to do that.
