The coal supply for steam power plants is depleting. Mining companies refuse to supply them at domestic prices. The fate of coal supply now depends on the government’s assignment scheme.

GONG Matua Hasibuan must take matters into his own hands, monitoring the supply of coals for steam power plants (PLTUs). The chief executive officer (CEO) of Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali (PJB), a subsidiary of state power company PLN that manages PLTUs, was directly supervising the daily coal supply, in case of a shortfall. “The supply for PJB’s power plants is relatively safe,” he told Tempo on Wednesday, August 10.
