Who'll Win the Water Race?

There's real competition over projects to supply water to Singapore from Indonesia. Those in the race include the president's family, relatives of ministers and even the younger sibling of a former chief of police.

ELEVEN years ago, there was a lot of sharp criticism about the selling off of Indonesian water to Singapore. Indonesia's then Coordinating Minister for Economics Radius Prawiro and Singapore's then Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong signed an MoU regarding the sale and purchase of Indonesia's "transparent gold" to Singapore.
