THE people of the village of Tembi all looked happy that afternoon. They waved and smiled as Warwick Purser, who hails from Australia and will be 60 this year, walked along the village streets. "In fact, all I wanted to do was help them improve their lot in life," Warwick told Tempo, while acknowledging the waves and the smiles of the villagers.

Tembi, near Timbulhardjo in the Regency of Bantul, is about 8 kilometers south of Yog
