Consumers have protested the LPG price increase. Is Pertamina taking advantage of a still-monopolistic market?

THIS year's Mother's Day was spent in dismal atmosphere. The mothers who were supposed to receive cheering gifts got a special present from Pertamina in the form of an LPG price increase. Pertamina increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 40 percent effective last Monday, from Rp3,000 per kilogram to Rp4,250. Consequently, the retail price of a 12-kilogram LPG bottle jumped from Rp38,000 to Rp51,000.
