Uncontrolled logging in Riau has robbed the Sumatran tiger of its habitat, forcing many to seek food down the mountains to survive. Already, 29 people have been killed by the big cat.

ONE day early last month dozens of farmers in the village of Dusun Sei Pagar, in the Kampar district of Riau in Central Sumatra, entered the forests just as the sun began to set. The men were looking for Iyuk, a fellow villager, who had gone missing in the forests over the past two days.
