JOHANNES Musu may well be the wealthiest scavenger in Indonesia. Living as he does in an elite zone in Kramat Pela City Village, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, he travels everywhere by private car.

Every morning Musu, 72, comes to two modest eateries near his home at Jalan Lumandau 2 to collect garbage. Usually he scavenges while doing running exercises in the morning. However, sometimes I go by car so as not to be mistaken for a real scavenger, h
