Eroding Environmental Supervision
Following the recent dissolution of Bapedal, environmental supervision has become the responsibility of the provinces. Unfortunately, many regional environmental boards may only be transitory in nature.

Indonesia's environment is entering a grey era. Last January, pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 24 the government dissolved the Environmental Impact Management Agency (Bapedal), thereby merging Bapedal into the Ministry of Environment. Bapedal was previously in charge of environmental policing.
