In the early morning hours, visitors can watch as scores of fishermen in canoes paddle along the surface of Lake Kerinci, tossing their nets into the water. The fish seem to literally jump in, an obliging catch. Located at the south end of the Kerinci Seblat National Part in Jambi, Sumatra, the 4,200-hectare Lake Kerinci provides countless fishermen with their livelihood.

But times were not always this good for these fishermen. Five years a
