Crowded House

Rare wild animals are packing animal shelters. It's not easy to move them to conservation areas and their natural habitat.

The heat at Paingan Village, Kulonprogo, Yogyakarta, made Lena very laid-back. When an attendant of the Yogyakarta Wildlife Rescue Center (PPSJ) offered her slices of watermelon, the two-year-old gibbon moved sluggishly to reach the sweet-tasting fruit and put it into her mouth. Once her meal was over, she retreated to the coolest corner, lay down and closed her eyes.
