An Explosive Poem
A Leiden University researcher discovered a poem in the form of a report about the devastating eruption of Krakatau in 1883.

The people who died immediately,
Were far too many, not only one.
Some lay caught up in trees.
Some were crushed by boats.
THIS is a verse from the poem written by Muhammad Saleh, about three months after the volcano, Krakatau, erupted in August of 1883.
