The bird flu has infected 20 percent of homeless cats. But there has as yet been no evidence that its virus can transmit from cats to humans or between humans.

THE government policy of banning poultry in residential areas does not please Chairil Anwar Nidom. This researcher of the Avian Influenza (AI) Laboratory Tropical Disease Center, Airlangga University, Surabaya, doubts whether this effort will be able to cut off the chain link for the transmission of the deadly virus.
