There is a serious health hazard concealed in the popular flour-coated peanut kacang atom. Unknown to many, kacang atom -- and other products processed from legumes -- has the potential to cause cancer and hepatitis.
Researchers at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Central Java, have found a high level of mycotoxin in kacang atom and other similar products. Although it has no immediate toxic effect, mycotoxin is a known carcinogen.
