Wieteke van Dort: Oh, the Good Old Dutch-Indonesian Days!

Many elderly Indonesians can easily sing along to Geef Mij Maar Nasi Goreng (I prefer fried rice), a tune that recalls a nostalgic life during Dutch colonial times. The song's composer, Wieteke van Dort, is an icon of the Indo (Dutch-Indonesian)community.

The cozy living room was transformed into a gathering space for a rainbow of people: young, old, Dutch, Eurasian, Indonesian. Lemper, pastel and other Indonesian snacks decked the numerous tables. The room was decorated with batik fabric, rattan chairs and wayang puppets, with keroncong music playing softly in the background.
