A total of 171 customers of PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) Jayapura received a Business Identification Number (NIB) directly from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). At this event, the Business Identification Numbers were also issued for 2,700 MSMEs.

According to Jokowi, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) contribute greatly to the national economy. However, there are still few UMK actors who already have an NIB.

"We know that 61 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Indonesia's economic cycle is driven by MSMEs. Almost 97 percent of workers' affairs and employment is also due to the contribution of our MSMEs, totaling more than 64 million. However, the Minister of Investment said, those who have NIB, which has been encouraged by the Ministry of Investment, are only 1.8 million," he said.

NIB, said the President, can be used by business actors to access banking services. President Jokowi also advised entrepreneurs to develop their businesses by using the MSME People's Business Credit (KUR) in banks, which have been subsidized by the government so that MSMEs in Indonesia can develop rapidly. Nevertheless, President Jokowi also reminded business actors to be careful and to calculate in detail before applying for a loan in a bank.

He also expressed his appreciation to PNM and all parties who have encouraged Indonesian MSMEs to upgrade their class. “I would like to thank the Minister of Investment, PNM, and all financial institutions. The NIB for entrepreneurs in Jayapura can provide opportunities for MSMEs in Papua to enter the financial system, our banking system," said President Jokowi.

PNM has disbursed financing of Rp137.77 trillion to PNM Mekaar customers, totaling 12.5 million customers as of August 29, 2022. Currently, PNM has 3,500 PNM Mekaar service offices and 624 PNM ULaMM service offices throughout Indonesia serving MSMEs in 34 provinces, 443 regencies/cities, and 5,640 districts. (*)
