THE 1-meter-high andesite panels have been allowed to stack up on a ceramic flight of steps. They merely function as an attribute of an ancestral grave in the village of Gambyok in Kediri, East Java. That is the condition of the Panji relief now at the Gambyok site.

The figure of Panji is clearly sculpted on to the stone. He is wearing a cap or blangkon without the part jutting out behind. He is bare-chested and is wearing a short, pleated saron
