Preserving our Raden Shaleh Heritage

A seminar commemorating 200 years of Raden Saleh was held at his former home in Cikini, Jakarta. Raden Saleh specialists and researchers from all over the world attended. Many aspects of his life were explored. The seminar raised the question of the condition of the Raden Saleh paintings in the possession of the Indonesian government.

What is the condition of the Raden Saleh paintings owned by the government compared to those in the hands of private collectors? Is Raden Saleh’s painting The Capture of Diponegoro, which was in Bogor but has just been moved to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, still in good condition? THE grave of Raden Saleh Sjarif Bustaman states that he was born in Semarang in the year 1813 or 1814. It also says that he died in Bogor on 23 April 1880.
