The warriors of Blambangan were renowned for their prowess in battle and determination to fight to the bitter end. The kingdoms of Mataram and Majapahit and the Dutch all learned this to their cost.

THREE pairs of burning eyes, hardened faces and the trademark headbands of warriors. These are the first things that strike you in a sketch of three Blambangan military commanders—Wong Agung Wilis, Rempeg Jagapati, and Sayu Wiwit—drawn by Banyuwangi artist Kojeng in 2007.
