One painting in the Maros-Pangkep Cave reflects the daily lives of ancient cave dwellers. The hand print indicates cave ownership.

"It was usually stamped near the entrance," said cave art researcher Pindi Setiawan, adding that the print might have been made to ward off misfortune. Cave dwellers in Maros-Pangkep put them on several walls where they thought evil spirits might get in.
