THE House of Representatives (DPR) ratified Law No. 24/2007 on Disaster Control. The government has been entrusted to assume responsibility for overcoming disasters.

Sanctions or fines are in order if the government is negligent or deliberately obstructs access in the event of a disaster. Hening Parlan, Director of the Indonesian Disaster Control Society, states that the law provides for an emergency situation.
