Seroja was the creation of a Betawi (Jakarta) native who lived in a narrow alley known as Gang Lontar Atas in the Tanah Abang area of Jakarta. His name was Husein Bawafi.

Seroja was the title of a soap opera, which starred a dangdut singer by the name of Iis Dahlia in 1997. She was also the singer of the song. In the soap opera, Iis was holding a pink umbrella and wearing a white dress as she sang the song with Malay dancers in the background. �
