Hong Kong A Rhapsody in Dreams
The story of our maids abroad is not only a sad one. Indonesian maids have also found deliverance working abroad. In Hong Kong they have been able to find a total freedom of self-expression. This fact which is frequently overlooked has inspired a group of young Jakartans to produce a film about them called Sunday Morning in Victoria Park. Last November, for nearly a month film director Lola Amaria filmed in Hong Kong. She completed the film with segments showing Indonesian maids who have succeeded in becoming successful businesswomen in Hong Kong.

WAN Chai is an area of Hong Kong filled with rows upon rows of bars which are famous for their nightlife. The whole area is scattered with discotheques and bars with erotic dancers on display. This is the red light district made famous in the novel The World of Suzie Wong written by Richard Mason in the 1950s and later turned into a film and then an operetta.
