Land clearance for the construction of the Eastern Flood Canal has created problems. Some landowners have not been compensated, while some undeserving people have been paid.

THE Eastern Flood Canal (BKT) project will cover hundreds of hectares of land. Landowners are uneasy and suspicious. Some already had their land dredged, but have yet to receive or may never receive compensation. As chiefs of the Land Acquisition Council, the Mayors of East and North Jakarta have accused land brokers of being the cause of confusion and complications in the BKT project. Fake land deeds abound.
