The Busway Money Pit

The Jakarta government directly appointed busway operators in six corridors. And bus operator consortiums determined cost components without clear guidelines. Consequently, operating buses on six special lanes stretching 83 kilometers demolished the province’s expenditure budget. Based on Tempo’s investigation, losses were no less than a staggering Rp122 billion—the equivalent of 102 TransJakarta buses.
