Nazaruddin Sjamsuddin: "The KPU is not Superman"
SO little time, so much work to do, is the problem faced by the General Elections Commission (KPU). Hardly was the ballot box crisis over, when the problem of the ballot papers hit the headlines. The signs are ominous: of the 660 million ballot papers that should have been printed, only 2.5 million (or 0.4 percent) are ready.

The April 5, 2004 General Elections was a non-negotiable decision. Such a monumental event was bound to attract different kinds of people into implementing it: from those trying to profit by it to those wanting to ensure democracy is being enforced. But the moment the emergency red light was switched on, the diverse reactions were predictable. Academics hit out with their criticisms, so did governmental institutions.
