The Australian Police have arrested 274 Indonesian fishermen from 2008-2012. They entered Australian waters near Christmas Island, which borders Indonesia, transporting illegal immigrants from Afghanistan and Middle Eastern countries in conflict. They were traveling on Indonesian fishing boats in search of political asylum. Most of the fishermen who were transporting them worked as ship crewmembers.
