TEAK has long been a favorite of Indonesia's furniture producers. However, teak wood is fast becoming a rare commodity. Deriving from the verbenaceae family, teak trees, or tectona grandisi, only grow in rocky areas rich in limestone receiving an average annual rainfall of 1,200 to 2,200 millimeters. During their 50-60-year growth period, teak trees can reach 35 meters in height.
