The DPRD and regional administrati on of Deli Serdang are working on a bylaw on cemetery tax. It’s seen as discriminatory and an infringement of rights.

OVER the week, Asiu has been unable to sleep well. It’s not owing to the heat of Medan, where the 45-year-old lives with his family. Nor is it because of the dull business in his electrical equipment store. Asiu, who has resided in the North Sumatra provincial capital for decades, is “feverish” for worrying about burial places. Graves?

That’s the case. For a week now, Medan newspapers have been reporting the news of tax on luxury graves.
