Victory Over Non-Payment of Debt

After 27 years of trying to chase down its debt, BNI now has to pay Rp26.5 billion to its debtor. Is this because BNI's case was neatly wrapped up by the Supreme Court and the Attorney General's Office?

THIS particular case will no doubt set an expensive example in the banking world. Back in 1973, Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) 1946 launched a lawsuit against Kadarisman, the director of Megaria, an iron and cement importer, demanding the full repayment of its Rp2.1 billion loan. But instead of getting its money back, this government bank was instead ordered by the Supreme Court (MA) to pay compensation to the tune of Rp26.5 billion to Kadarisman.
