Uncovering Friday’s Dirty Money
Bribery remains rampant at Tanjung Priok Customs & Excise Office. Hundreds of millions of rupiah in suspected bribery money was found in the desk drawers of officials at the office. It’s as if every Friday, the dirty money from export-import businesses has becomes a regular “wage” for civil servants. The Customs & Excise Internal Compliance Section and the KPK have removed a number of officials.

THE Tanjung Priok Customs & Excise Office is like a dilapidated car. It has already been overhauled and all its spare parts totally cannibalized. Mid-last year, the offices, which were initially spread across three locations, were integrated within a five-story building on Jl. Pabean 1 in North Jakarta.
