THE arrest of Mohammad Iqbal on Tuesday last week surprised many Golkar Party functionaries. As soon as news of the arrest was confirmed, on the same day the banyan tree party—as Golkar is known—immediately “erased” his name from their list of legislative candidates. “His arrest was right on the final day for the submission of the legislative candidate lists,” said the head of the Golkar Party Cadres & Organizational Affairs, Syamsul
