A Gift for the Supreme Justice

The DPR speeded up the completion of the Draft Law on the Supreme Court. A number of factions agreed to a retirement age of 70 for Supreme Court judges. Supreme Court Chief Justice Bagir Manan has denied intervening in the determination of the age limit. The DPR should be prioritizing the deliberation of the Draft Law on the Judicial Commission.

THE acrimonious debate continued until the approach of Friday afternoon prayers. Of the 10 factions invited, only six attended the meeting in late August. Absent were the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) faction, the Justice & Prosperity Party faction, the Reform Star Party faction and the Democratic Pioneer Star Party faction.
